Clover Eyes

In anime, some characters's pupils are shaped flowers with four petals, or like crosses with round corners. There doesn't seem to be any well-known term for them, but some people say the shape of these "eyes are clovers," me ga kuroobaa 目がクローバー, so they are clover eyes.

As you can see, four petals.

Naturally, "clover eyes" must have have four petals, too, and look like a cross. If they were to have five petals, then "the eyes are flowers," me ga hana 目が花, or something like that.

Fortunately, most of the time it's just four petals.

For the sake of reference, these are similar to clover eyes, but aren't clover eyes:

    The eyes are four rhombi
    • A rhombus is a equilateral quadrilateral, a four-sided shape whose sides all have the same length.
    • The word hishi 菱 means "water caltrop," but since they're diamond-shaped, it also refers to the diamond shapes found in designs. It becomes bishi as suffix due to rendaku 連濁.
    • By the way, the brand Mitsubishi 三菱 has a logo with "three rhombi" in it.
