teppeki skirt 鉄壁スカート

NSFW : this article may contain words or images you'd rather not have your boss see.

In the Japanese anime fandom, teppeki skirt, also romanized teppeki sukaato 鉄壁スカート, literally "iron-wall skirt," or less literally "impregnable skirt," refers to a skirt that absolutely never lets panties be seen, no matter the camera angle.

It does so by folding in ways inexplicable by current modern science, going as far as to ignore gravity and other laws of physics.

Kuro-Usagi 黒ウサギ, example of "iron-wall skirt," teppeki-sukaato 鉄壁スカート.
Character: Kuro-Usagi 黒ウサギ
Anime: Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? 問題児たちが異世界から来るそうですよ? (Episode 8)

Definition

Some anime will regularly show glimpses of characters' panties to the audience as a form of fanservice. This is specifically called panchira. Some people find this vulgar, and such people can be divided into two types:

  1. People who are just turned off by fanservice in general and would rather panties stopped showing in their favorite shows.
  2. Gentlemen of culture who know less is more, in other words, the less you show, the more people become curious about it.
    • Nobody would care what's inside Kakashi's mask if they just showed it.
    • Nobody would care what's in the safe if they just showed it.
    • Nobody would care what's in Area 51 if they just showed it.
    • Basically, people have a tendency of sticking their noses where they shouldn't.

The iron-wall skirt helps in both cases. It keeps panties out of view, and, again: it keeps panties out of view. That's the important thing.

Kuro-Usagi 黒ウサギ, example of "iron-wall skirt," teppeki-sukaato 鉄壁スカート.
Character: Kuro-Usagi 黒ウサギ
Anime: Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? 問題児たちが異世界から来るそうですよ? (Episode 8)
  • A spell has been cast to the skirt of Kuro Usagi 黒ウサギ, "Black Rabbit," to turn it into a teppeki skirt, so you never get to see the panties she's wearing in the anime, no matter the camera angle or position of her body.
  • I'm serious. It's canon. The canonical comment on it:
  • mieteshimaeba tada no gehin na shitagi-tachi mo, mienakereba geijutsu da.
    見えてしまえばただの下品な下着たちも、見えなければ芸術だ。
Even panties, which are vulgar if you end up seeing them, become art if you don't see them.

Sitting on Floor

Sometimes, skirts defy the laws of nature when a character sits on the floor in taiiku-zuwari 体育座り position.

Hyuuga Akari 日向朱里, Kanou Koyomi 叶こよみ, example of taiiku-zuwari 体育座り.

Right: Kanou Koyomi 叶こよみ
Anime: Yagate Kimi ni Naru やがて君になる (Episode 3)
  • Context: a mysterious force allows the skirts of these characters to defy gravity, going upwards as if they were made out of a very stiff material like jeans or iron sheets.

For comparison:

Minamoto Sakura 源さくら, Konno Junko 紺野純子, example of taiiku-zuwari 体育座り.

Anime: Zombieland Saga, ゾンビランドサガ (Episode 6)
  • Context: gravity-abiding skirts.
